The chain of lakes consists of Halfmile, which is the northern lake, Thomas, Banks, Woodbeck and Horseshoe Lake. Most of the lakes are fairly shallow, and good water clarity allows plant growth down to approximately 10 feet. Rooted vegetation covers a large amount of the littoral zone of the lakes.
Woodbeck Chain of Lakes is within the Flat River Watershed. The Flat River Watershed drains approximately 560 square miles in Montcalm, Ionia Kent Counties. The mainstream originates in the Six Lakes area and flows approximately 70 miles until joining up with the Grand River in Lowell.
