What does your lake assocation do for you?

What Does The Woodbeck Chain of Lakes Association Do For You?

We are fortunate to live on the Woodbeck Chain of Lakes. To our knowledge, it is the only chain of lakes in Michigan that does not have public boat launch access!  Because there is no government owned public access ramp on any of the five lakes, only lakefront or deeded lake access owners and their guests have access to the lakes.  This limited access has many benefits.  There is less boat traffic, less noise and less potential pollution.  It also means better fishing and a higher value for your lakefront property.

Owners have established the Woodbeck Chain of Lakes Association  to:

  • manage the preservation and well-being of the lakes
  • stock the lakes with great sport fish and excellent eating fish
  • annual dues provide for lake maintenance
  • constructs and maintains boat launch ramps for members
  • provides security against public access  to the lakes
  • contracts through the township for treatment against invasive vegetation
  • plans and organizes social activities for members such as progressive kayaking, annual golf outing, monthly social get togethers , annual Association meeting and Christmas  party
  • publishes Waterline newsletter 3 times a year

Here's how the Woodbeck Chain of Lakes operates:

  • In late August, Lake Representatives from each of the five lakes are elected by the general membership at the annual meeting to serve on the Board of Directors for the next fiscal year (September thru August). At the following Board meeting, officers for the Association are elected by and from the newly elected Lake Reps. Officers are President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
  • Members of the Board work with volunteers from the general membership on various committees that meet to implement the purpose of the Association.
  • The Association maintains a private boat launch on Kindy Rd at the Woodbeck/Horseshoe channel and has a working relationship with Camp Concordia for members to use their boat launch on Half Mile Lake.  There are no public boat launches on the five lakes so membership in the WCLA provides convenient boat access to the lakes.
  • The Association publishes a newsletter, “The Waterline” on March/June/Sept, to inform members of WCLA activities via e-mail.  Email communications on important Association events are also made to members who have supplied the Association with their email address.
  • The Association plants fish every year – primarily Walleye – to promote quality fishing for members.
  • BOTTOM LINE:  Membership in the WCLA is a great investment and all lakefront and lake access owners are encouraged to join

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED

There are numerous committees you can join such as Lake Quality, Fish Plant, Social Get-togethers, Signage and more. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the committee chairperson.  See Committee Roster for their contact information.
